Healthy Gator 2010 Responsibilites

The Vision: A campus environment supportive of the development and maintenance of a healthy body, mind and spirit for all members of the University of Florida community.

The Steering Committee has broad-based representation from across the UF campus.

  1. General oversight of the initiative
  2. Encouraging cooperation and communication across the work groups and the campus community
  3. Ensuring inclusiveness for all members of the campus community
  4. Identifying and securing funding to support the initiative
  5. Providing general direction to the work-groups
  6. Receive reports and review actions of the Executive Committee and work groups
  7. Primarily responsible for sustaining the effort over time

The Executive Committee is chaired by the Steering Committee vice-chair, and includes the Steering Committee chair and chairs of each of the work groups, plus three additional members from the Steering Committee, one of which will be a student representative.

  1. Primary policy making body, makes recommendations to the Steering Committee
  2. Major decision making in keeping with the best interest of the Healthy Gators (HG) 2010 initiative
  3. Assists the work groups to define and focus on their responsibilities
  4. Coordinates review of journal publications prior to submission
  5. Establishes parameters of media releases
  6. Assists the work groups to maintain their focus on areas of responsibility

The Surveillance Work Group is primarily responsible for developing and maintaining an ongoing, systematic collection, analysis, interpretation, and dissemination of health-related data.

  1. Establishing parameters for measuring important health-related indices
  2. Developing appropriate data collection instruments
  3. Designing the strategies and methods for collecting data
  4. Processing, analyzing and interpreting health-related data
  5. Monitoring changes in selected health-related indices
  6. Disseminating findings from all data collection activities
  7. Guiding the authorship of research publications

 

The Programming Work Group identifies and reviews ongoing health programming offerings from across campus. This group is responsible for the development of the annual plan for all health related program offerings also on campus.

  1. Identifying all health related program offerings across campus
  2. Creating the annual plan for health promotion programming
  3. Establishing criteria for health promotion programs to be included in the annual plan
  4. Using the needs assessment data to develop health promotion programs to address risk behaviors of greatest need
  5. Evaluate programs offered to determine effect

The Policy Work Group would identify current health supportive policies and define policy changes necessary to more effectively support healthy lifestyles.

  1. Identifying health supportive policies
  2. Proposing additional policy or refining existing policies to be more supportive of health
  3. Working with the communication/public relations work group to create broad based support for policy changes
  4. Processing proposed policy changes through the appropriate university committees or offices

The Communications/Public Relations Work Group will guide the overall communication and public relations efforts.

  1. Use the communication infrastructure to promote the Healthy Gators 2010 mission, purpose, and activities to the campus community
  2. Assist the programming work group to tailor messages for its initiatives and to promote its activities
  3. Assist the policy work group to identify ways to influence and to advocate for policies that benefit health and quality of life
  4. Identify the type and scope of health messages on the UF campus
  5. Evaluate the quality of health messages on the UF campus
  6. Identify appropriate health communication strategies to inform or influence the campus community related to health enhancement
  7. Create/provide health messages to encourage adoption or maintenance of positive health behaviors
