American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists
Mission: Professional organization for the promotion and understanding of the knowledge and skills in the field of pharmaceutical science and for the continued advancement of ourselves, our university, our community, and human welfare in general
Activities: Seminars, Socials, Fundraisers, Committee member meetings, Career Fair Info sessions
American MD/PHD Student Association
Mission: To serve as an information resource for current and future MD/PhD students.
Activities: Promote the MD/PhD program at nationally and at UF locally.
American Medical Association-Medical Student Section
Mission: First and foremost, the AMA is working for the interests of all physicians, including you! As a medical student, getting involved in the AMA means protecting the future of your profession in the face of rapidly changing times. Threats to medicine from government, insurance, and other professions is on the rise. The AMA lobbies to keep medicine in the hands of doctors.
Activities: Free monthly dinners at the ACMS meetings; Opportunities to attend AMA-MSS conventions in Chicago, Hawaii, and many other locations.
American Pharmacists Association Academy of Student Pharmacists
Mission: To encourage advancement of pharmacy as a science and as a profession in accordance with the objectives stated in the Constitutions of the Academy of Students of Pharmacy and American Pharmaceutical Association. To promote fellowship among the faculty of the College of Pharmacy and students in general.
American Society of Consultant Pharmacists-Florida Student Chapter
Mission: To encourage and provide professional development in the area of geriatric pharmacy practice and consultant pharmacy.
Activities: Pharmacy career development through mentor programs and presentations, community service, promotion of senior care pharmacy and consultant pharmacy.
American Student Dental Association
Mission: ASDA at UF is the local chapter of the American Student Dental Association, a national organization. ASDA at UF provides dental students at UFCD with a voice in organized dentistry.
Activities: Interaction with national ASDA, American Dental Association (ADA) and Florida Dental Association (FDA); lectures on current issues, legislation, technology, practice management and other relevant topics to the field of dentistry; social events for dental students, faculty and friends; involvement in community service.
American Student Dental Association, Predental Chapter
Mission: The American Student Dental Association is a national student-run organization which protects and advances the rights, interests and welfare of students pursuing careers in dentistry. It represents students with a unified voice and provides information, education, advocacy and services. The association introduces lifelong involvement in organized dentistry, and promotes change for the betterment of the profession.
Activities: The Association will provide programs to educate members on topics important to their career development.
Children’s Table Field Day: Golden Key International Honor Society
Mission: Teams made up of members of various UF organizations will compete in various field day activities (i.e. races, tug-of-war, building towers of canned goods.) They will pay an entry fee in cash and there will be canned food donations. The money and cans will be donates to Children''s Table, a local charity.
Christian Medical and Dental Society
Mission: To aid Christian medical and dental students to gain mutual strength, encouragement and blessings to be attained in meeting one another; to present a positive witness of our God and Father and our Savior Jesus Christ to medical and dental professions.
Activities: weekly meetings with occasional guest speakers; occasional social activities and community service.
Colleges Against Cancer
Mission: A collaboration of college students dedicated to eliminating cancer by initiating and supporting programs of the American Cancer Society in college communities. Colleges Against Cancer will promote activities in four main areas: Advocacy, Cancer Control, Relay For Life, and Cancer Survivorship.
Activities: 1. Advocacy -anti-tobacco activities in communities -encouraging students to contact elected leaders through the ACS Action Network -grassroots advocacy campaigns to support cancer-related policies. 2. Cancer Control -spread the word on campus about cancer prevention, early detection, and healthy lifestyles through creative programming. 3. (still to be created) Relay For Life -sponsor Relay For Life on campus -Relay For Life is an overnight event to celebrate survivorship and to raise money for research and programs of the ACS. 4. Survivorship -work with Shands and the local Hope Lodge -increase access to programs that can improve the quality of life for cancer survivors (ex: support services, community events, etc.).
College of Dentistry Class of 2008
Mission: UFCD 2008 is a local student-run organization which protects and advances the rights, interests, and welfare of the graduating class of 2008 at the University Of Florida College Of Dentistry. It represents students with a unified voice and provides information, education, advocacy, and services. UFCD 2008 introduces lifelong involvement in organized dentistry, and promotes change for the betterment of the profession.
Activities: Socials Services Conferences Anything beneficial to the Class of 2008.
College of Medicine-Graduate Student Organization (COM-GSO)
Mission: The COM-GSO provides a forum for graduate students at the college of medicine to deal with issues involving faculty, curriculum, facilities, and policies both at the college of medicine, as well as campus wide.
Activities: The COM-GSO serves as an advisory board, sending representatives to the Medical College Council, the IDP Advisory Board, and the College of Medicine Student Advocacy Committee. The COM-GSO works to facilitate graduate student organizations and activities dealing with education, recruiting, and philanthropic efforts.
College of Pharmacy Student Council
Mission: Represents the views and opinions of the College of Pharmacy students to their dean, faculty, administrative officers and university community.
College Students for Cancer Awareness and Raising Emotions through Sports (CARES)
Mission: College students dedicated to lending a helping hand to lesser-represented organizations that aid those affected by cancer and other ills in the Gainesville community. One main purpose of College Students' C.A.R.E.S. is to raise funds to go toward cancer research organizations, especially for pediatrics.
Activities: This is a serious yet fun organization where activity ideas are welcome in addition to already established volunteer opportunities. Our main event occurs in the fall and is a sports competition bringing college students from all across Florida in an effort to raise funds for cancer research. Speakers and special guests will also be presented.
Mission: Maintains a tradition and continued growth of the Dance Marathon event. Plans, organizes and keeps improvements for the next year.
Activities: Selecting Dance Marathon staff, construction and maintenance of alumni, faculty and area leaders to reaise donations and improve events.
Dr. Help
Mission: To participate in the delivery of healthcare in the Dominican Republic while also developing Spanish language skills.
Activities: fundraising and week-long trips to the Dominican Republic where we will participate in the delivery of health care in both urban and rural settings.
Mission: Teaching, research, and service to all aspects of the Health Education realm.
Activities: Sponsor and Annual AIDS Benefit Concert. Sponsor "Sex in the Swamp" an event held at the Swamp Restaurant in order to educate college students about sexual responsibility and reproductive health. Participate in many Organizational Fairs.
Exercise Science Society
Mission: to encourage intellectual development, academic achievement, and professional advancement among the students of the University of Florida.
Florida Society of Health Systems Pharmacists Student Chapter
Mission: To provide information to students about career directions needed for pharmacy practice in health systems.
Activities: Speakers will be brought in from various pharmacy practice sites to inform students about the wide variety of practices available and professional opportunities.
Friends for Life of America
Mission: Friends for Life of America supports programs that improve the quality of life for pediatric patients living with leukemia and its related cancers. By encouraging community involvement, we strive to make a difference in the lives of others.
Activities: 1. Educate the public about the latest developments in diagnosis and treatment. 2. Provide quality programs and services for patients and their families. 3. Raise funds to support innovative community and research initiatives. 4. Strengthen leadership, camaraderie, and involvement within the organization.
Food Science and Human Nutrition Club
Mission: Fosters a close relationship among the Food Science and Human Nutrition students and faculty.
Activities: attend conventions and conferences in the field of Food Science and Nutrition, faculty/student socials and community donations.
Mission: To increase the physical activity levels in our community in order to stop weight gain in America and the numerous health complications associated with being overweight.
Activities: March of Dimes Walk America, Tri-Gator Sprint Triathlon, Walking Wednesday, Goal Reached Gala.
Mission: Health Care Issues Day provides College of Medicine students the opportunity to learn pertinent information that students are not usually able to learn in the traditional curriculum.
Activities: HCID recruits speakers from around the country to speak to approximately 300 hundred students on pertinent issues. HCID holds committee meetings twice a month to follow up with our progress for the event.
Health Educated Asian Leaders (HEAL)
Mission: HEAL is an organization of students representing various health related fields at the University of Florida. We are here to bring together students pursuing a career in Medicine, Pharmacy, Dentistry, Veterinary Medicine, Nursing, and Physical and Occupational Therapy. Our goal is to unite and build a network of diverse students with similar interests and career goals. Students are provided with the resources needed in order to be successful in furthering their professional ambitions. As an organization geared solely to address the concerns and interests of our members, we welcome all interested individuals to get involved.
Activities: HEAL’s First Annual Health Bowl, Princeton Review Free Practice MCAT
Health and Human Performance College Council
Mission: To enhance professionalism with the College of Health and Human Performance.
Health Professions College Council
Mission: Provides channels for communication and cooperation among the different disciplines of the College of Health Related Professions.
Activities: The Horse Farm Hundred is a 100-mile non-competitive bike tour that takes place each fall. It is sponsored by the Gainesville Bicycling Club. All donations given to Horse 100 Scholarship Fund. The Council has a longstanding relationship with Hope Lodge/ Saint Francis House in which we prepare dinner for residents at various times throughout the year. Actively prepare for the annual Wheelchair Basketball Game. Last year, students from the physical therapy and occupational therapy departments at the University of Florida competed against the UF wheelchair basketball team to raise money for the Gator Sport camp held every summer.
Health Occupations Students of America
Mission: The primary purpose of this organization is to develop leadership and technical HOSA skill competencies through a program of motivation, awareness and recognition. Our main goal is to build the confidence of students in themselves and their work by providing opportunities to assume responsibilities and by developing personal and occupational competencies and social skills that lead to realistic choices of careers and successful employment in the health care field. Our second goal is to encourage involvement in local, state, and national health care and education projects. Our final goal is to help the members understand the importance of pleasing oneself as well as being of service to others by taking part in community service activities throughout the year.
Activities: We will be doing various community service activities throughout the year. The specific activities will be announced at the meetings.
Health Outreach Assembly
Mission: To organize and encourage interdisciplinary international collaboration for different Health Mission trips.
Activities: Education, Multidisciplinary Health aid.
Healthcare Administration Student Association
Mission: Provide MHA students with the opportunity to practice and advance their leadership skills, which are essential in the development of effective healthcare administrators.
Activities: plan events to benefit the students professionally and socially; plan service events that will impact our community; plan social events, such as our annual Christmas Social, which help to form strong bonds between all members.
Healthy Gators
Mission: The primary purpose of this organization is to improve both the mental and physical aspects of students that attend the university.
Activities: General Meetings, seminars, club sponsored activities in mental and physical recreation.
Hispanic American Medical Student Association
Mission: The Hispanic American Medical Student Association (HAMSA) represents the interests and ideals of Latino/a medical students as the Southeast regional division of the National Network of Latin American Medical Students (NNLAMS). The primary mission of HAMSA as a whole is to promote the improvement of health care for underprivileged and underserved communities.
Activities: A comprehensive national effort to prevent disease, promote health, and deliver appropriate care must endorse initiatives to reduce health disparities among racial and ethnic minorities. This effort must include the improvement of health care infrastructure and the removal of impediments to the delivery of, and access to, health care among these populations. HAMSA champions two vital objectives in combating these progressively prevalent disparities: REPRESENTATION AND EDUCATION!
Internal Medicine Interest Group
Mission: Promote the field of internal medicine to interested medical students.
International Society for Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research Student Chapter
Mission: Provide an environment where students can share knowledge in pharmacoeconomics and health outcomes research. Serve as a bridge in bringing together students interested in pharmacoeconomics and members of the pharmaceutical industry, health-related organizations, and academia. Act as a resource for new students interested in pharmacoeconomics and outcomes research. Provide an opportunity for student chapter members to become familiar with the affairs of ISPOR as well as have representation in its affairs.
Activities: Meetings with speakers from the Pharmacoeconomic and Outcomes Research community.
Mission: Fosters professional consciousness and stimulates a desire for high scholarship in students of pharmacy.
Mission: Provides an agency for the coordinated action of the student body and faculty of the College of Medicine toward common goals and interest.
Minority Association of Pre-Health Students
Mission: Committed to assuring that students of color are encouraged to consider and prepare for medical careers.
Activities: Assist minority students in enrolling and successfully completing their studies in the various colleges of the health profession; serve the health needs of under-represented communities to the best of our abilities; educate not only minorities but all people about important health matters; and lastly, ensure cultural sensitivity to the needs of a diverse population to the best of our abilities.
National Student Speech Language Hearing Association
Mission: Encourages professional interest among college and university students in the study of normal and disordered human communication behavior.
Activities: Actively participate in school activities such as the dance marathon, Stride Against Silence, Relay for Life, among others. Also conduct free hearing screenings throughout the school year for students to receive a free screening held on campus.
Nursing College Council
Mission: Represents the professional and educational interests regarding current changes in politics, education, research and legislation of the College of Nursing.
Activities: The Council coordinates activities and projects that benefit the college, the university, and the students under the advisement of the student leaders and faculty. It is funded by Student Government through the Board of College Councils.
Panhellenic 5K- Panhellenic Council
Mission: Composed of representatives and chapter presidents from each NPC sorority on campus. One of the council.
Activities: Throughout the academic semesters, Panhellenic sponsors numerous programs on women’s issues, scholarship, and membership development, while also participating in many service projects.
Pathology Interest Group
Mission: To allow interested medical students to learn more about the field of Pathology.
Activities: Monthly lunch meetings with faculty and staff of the Pathology department; "hands-on" opportunities; shadowing faculty members.
Phi Lambda Sigma
Mission: Recognizes the achievements of people who have contributed to the advancement of pharmacy.
Activities: 1. Develop awareness of the continuing need for leaders in the profession of pharmacy. 2. Promote opportunities and rewards for leadership in the profession of pharmacy. 3. Motivate student pharmacists to accept leadership service opportunities. 4. Develop and deliver programs and services to assist those who desire to serve in a leadership role.
Pre-Med American Medical Student Association
Mission: Student governed, national organization committed to representing concerns of physicians-in-training. It serves its commitment to improving medical training and the nation’s health. Improving health care and healthcare delivery to all people; promoting active involvement in medical education; assisting in the improvement and understanding of world health problems.
Activities: Participate in Breast Cancer awareness during the month of October; hold conventions where guest speakers ranging from physicians to physician assistants, to women who have survived breast cancer or other illnesses. Attend and plan the Medical College Forum held once a year in February. Monthly meetings where guest speakers attend to share their stories of failure and triumph.
Pre-Optometry Pupils
Mission: To inform pre-optometry students about the field of optometry and how to get into optometry schools. To meet others interested in the same field.
Activities: Guest Speakers from different optometry schools, Volunteer experience, to publicize the importance of eye care around the university, meetings at least once a month.
Pre-Pharmacy Society at the University of Florida
Mission: The primary purpose of this organization shall be to provide pre-pharmacy students at the University of Florida the resources, opportunities, and environment to: A. Introduce undergraduates to the profession of pharmacy B. Hold activities to enhance the intellectual and professional growth of pre-pharmacy students C. Serve the community with volunteer services D. Assist in the admission process to Pharmacy school by seeking to make its members qualified applicants.
Activities: This organization continually attempt to participate in volunteering services, inviting guest speakers, having social events, and overall activities to become a better pharmacy school applicant.
Project Haiti
Mission: To provide free medical care to needy Haitians.
Activities: Raise money to buy supplies and medications needed for the medical mission to Haiti.
Project Yucatan
Mission: To provide the University of Florida College of medicine with the opportunity to get exposed to a different health care system.
Activities: Going to Merida, Mexico for a week and working in the clinics.
Public Health Student Association
Mission: The purpose is to disseminate information, support student-initiated projects, bring a greater social cohesion to the Master of Public Health (MPH) program and represent the concerns of the MPH students to the faculty, staff, and university community.
Activities: Meetings, social events, receptions, organized lectures with prominent speakers.
Mission: Promotes scholarship, friendship and recognizes scholastic achievements in pharmacy.
Activities: Our most prominent activity is the Clerkship Forum, which is provided for the 3rd year members. At the clerkship forum, there are many different preceptors on hand to discuss the various activities required for their individual clinical rotation, as well as some 4th year members there to discuss the "do's and don'ts" of the available clerkships.

Signing Gators
Mission: To educate the campus and local community of Deaf Culture and their language. Provide entertainment and instruction of ASL.
Activities: We will provide educational opportunities for the students, faculty and staff of the University of Florida in the form of presentations from members of the Deaf community, and others working with the Deaf Community. We will also provide the instruction of signing skills to people interested in learning, such as University of Florida students, and parents of deaf or hard of hearing children. Our interest as a group is to work closely with people who are Deaf or hard of hearing. Special events will also be arranged in the form of social gatherings for our members and the community.
Student Health Outreach Team
Mission: Promotes student and consumer participation in heath care on the University of Florida campus.
Activities: health education activities; surveys and analysis of student views; review of complaints and suggestions for SHS; reviews of policies/programs in SHS.
Students Helping Kids with Diabetes
Mission: The primary purpose of SH-Kids will be to assist in programs offered by The Florida Camp for Children and Youth with Diabetes (FCCYD), to increase diabetes awareness among the University of Florida community by interacting with student body meetings, support groups, on campus projects, etc. and to serve as a funding agency for children with diabetes in need.
Activities: The activities of this organization shall include providing support groups, holding on campus projects to promote diabetes awareness, and to hold fundraisers that benefit children with diabetes.
Student National Medical Association
Mission: Promotes medical education and the provision of health care to medically under-served populations.
Student Athletic Trainers Organization (SATO)
Mission: Provides for the advancement, encouragement and improvement of the student athletic training program; promotes a better relations and understanding in the athletic training field.
Student National Pharmaceutical Association
Mission: The primary purpose of this organization is to serve as an educational service association of pharmacy students at the University of Florida who are concerned about the profession of pharmacy, healthcare issues, and the poor minority representation in these areas. The purpose of SNPhA is to plan, organize, coordinate, and execute programs geared toward the improvement of health, educational, and social environment of minority communities.
Activities: Offering student members opportunities to develop leadership and professional skills. (Ex: Pre-pharmacy workshops and Leadership conferences) · To educate students about, and promote active participation in national healthcare issues. (Ex: Operation Immunization Awareness, National Pharmacy Week) · To develop the role of the minority health professional as vital members of the healthcare team. (Ex: Health fairs, Brown Bags) · To develop within communities, a positive image of minority health professionals. (Ex: Boys and Girls club tutoring project) · To educate communities on better health practices and to increase their awareness and understanding of diseases. (Ex: Hypertension Screenings).

Student Physical Therapy Association
Mission: Provides representation for the students in the physical therapy program to the university and has opportunities for them to interact with faculty and the community.
The Crohns and Colitis Support Group
Mission: The purpose of this organization is to provide a group of support to persons coping with Crohn’s or Colitis, a.k.a. inflammatory bowel disease (IBD); to increase awareness and knowledge of the effects of IBD and its presence among the population; to raise money for and to lobby for research towards a cure or prevention for IBD.
Activities: Support and informational sessions.
Undergraduate Medical Humanities and Narrative Medicine Discussion Group
Mission: The primary purpose of this organization is to introduce premedical and other health related undergraduates to non-science issues that they will confront in health care. We aim to foster the development of conscientious health-care professionals.
Activities: We will provide discussions of relevant literature, and interactions with physicians and medical students.
Voices for Planned Parenthood (VOX)
Mission: Vox: Voices for Planned Parenthood (also referred to as Vox) exists to educate the university community about sexual health and reproductive rights, to translate increased awareness into pro-choice activism on campus, and to serve as a coalition partner to state, national and international reproductive rights efforts.
Activities: educating students about sexual health and reproductive rights, mobilizing students to become activists, organizing events to promote reproductive healthcare and rights issues, tabling, letter writing, etc.
Volunteers for International Education Week (VISA)
Mission: To expose the multicultural diversity to the student body.
Activities: VISA’s most prominent events include International Week in the fall and International Month in the spring. Furthermore, VISA sponsors and co-programs events with a wide range of student organizations such as ASU, HSA, BSU, WLC, STAAR, Multicultural Cabinet, Dean of Students Office and the International Center.
